For CAADE Counselors
Dear CAADE Counselor
Hi. I am Dr. Steve Wolf, a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in West Los Angeles, scheduled to present at the CAADE 2010 Conference in Palm Springs later this month. I am also a recognized Diplomate of the National Anger Management Association (NAMA), Founder and Director of “The WOLF Training Institute (WOLF TI) for Emotional Awareness, Violence Prevention and Behavioral Change” and creator of the Taming Your Anger/Emotional Intelligence Program.
In 1973-1974 I began and Directed New York City’s first Prison Therapeutic Community Drug Program in Rikers Island Prison. As a volunteer with the LA Sherriff’s Department in the 1980’s I participated in creating an acupuncture detox program on L.A.’s skid row. In the 1990’s I participated in creating an alternative middle school. For the past five years I consulted as a Co-Occurring Disorders Therapist and taught Anger Management for men coming directly from prison, jail and the streets. I also developed the Taming Your Anger/Emotional Intelligence (TYA/EQ) Program working with two strikers who knew they had an anger problem and didn’t want their uncontained anger to cost them 25 years to life. I am presently directing a research program evaluating the effects of the TYA/EQ training with a group of at risk teens in a continuation high school in Long Beach. A more complete version of my resume can be found at www.SteveWolfPhd.com.
I have recently developed a Program to train Mental Health providers to teach “Taming Your Anger “and “The Building Blocks for Emotional Intelligence (TYA/EQ).“ Those who become certified to teach TYA/EQ will also be accepted for certification by the National Anger Management Association. And you can accrue CAADE CEU’s.
At Wolf TI we recognize Anger Management, as a Court Mandated Sentence which relatively few of us require. Taming Your Anger & The Building Blocks for Emotional Intelligence are for the rest of us, since we all feel angry sometimes and we can all learn to better deal with our emotions.
The WOLF training Institute (WOLF TI) offers you an opportunity to achieve three goals with the same effort:
1) to earn CAADE CEU’s,
2) to become certified as a TYA/EQ Teacher, and
3) to become NAMA Certified.
This training is not a one day or a weekend workshop. It takes time to learn to Tame Your Own Anger, and the Building Blocks for Emotional Intelligence, let alone learning to teach others how to do it. When you graduate Level 1, you will be qualified as a “Taming Your Anger” Specialist and as an “Anger Management Specialist” and you will be confident in your ability to teach because you will continue to train you until you are prepared.
Taming Your Anger began as a small book that fits into a shirt pocket. Several years later, it has now evolved into a system to teach Emotional Awareness, Violence Prevention & Behavioral Change. It teaches the understand of emotions in general and of anger in particular. We clarify where Emotions come from, how they are produced and how to express them safely. We also teach how to take charge of other negative behaviors (like relapse) and how to develop new abilities.
WOLF TI teaches that we can’t help feeling anger or any other emotion any more than we can stop our heart beats: Emotions happen…whether we like it or not. Nonetheless, we are all responsible for our emotions and for our behavior and we all benefit from learning to protect ourselves from creating negative consequences when we experience sometimes powerful emotions.
I invite you to join me at the Pre-Conference on Thursday April 22nd in Palm Springs in “ An introduction to Taming Your Anger and the Building Blocks of Emotional Intelligence”.
On Friday April 23rd I’ll be talking about the underlying psychology of Anger as an addiction and the application of the TYA/EQ Model for Recovery and for Relapse prevention.
Also, please stop by at the WOLF TRAINING INSTITUTE Exhibit Table and let’s talk about how this program might positively impact your career.
I’m looking forward to meeting you and sharing my work.
Best wishes,
Steve Wolf Ph.D.
